Job Description:
The Registered Nurse (House Supervisor) is a member of the
Nursing Administrative Team. He/She reports to the House Supervisor
Director. The House Supervisor is responsible for the coordination
of clinical nurse staffing in the absence of the unit director. The
house supervisor works directly with nursing unit directors to
ensure staffing needs and targets on nursing units are met as the
patient census fluctuates throughout the shift. The House
Supervisor may provide direct or indirect patient care across all
nursing areas of the hospital. He/She attends educational programs
specific to the role. He/She functions in a leadership role and is
responsible for coaching clinical nurses as needed. The House
Supervisor must posses' good communication skills and must be able
to effectively communicate with physicians, peers, patients, and
families. He/She acts as the liaison between the nursing
departments and all the ancillary departments to promote continuity
of care, optimal patient outcomes, patient satisfaction, cost
efficiency and compliance.Essential Functions -Determines,
coordinates, and supervises daily staffing assignments and
levels.Provides direction, orientation, training, coaching, and
mentoring to staff.Posses' leadership skills that demonstrate an
ability to motivate and coach others.Must be able to carry out the
mission, vision, and core values of the organization.Must possess
the clinical ability to be flexible and functional in all clinical
nursing areas within the facility.Must have the ability to remain
calm and make leadership decisions in chaotic and/or stressful
situations.Demonstrates knowledge and application of the nursing
process. Administering medication and treatments within the scope
of practice for a Registered Nurse.Determines staff level and
assignments based on staff availability, staff abilities, census,
patient acuity, and work/patient flow.Provides direct patient care
as need. May take patient assignments to meet staffing
needs.Practices, develops, and endorses customer service skills in
relationships with internal and external customers. Responds to
complaints about patient care and related services.Serves as
patient and family advocate with respect to the patient's right to
privacy, autonomy, and dignity by protecting confidentiality of
information.Performs role specific duties as assigned, including
entering orders, performing admission or discharges, and
coordinating transfers.Ensures staff has necessary equipment and
supplies to provide safe, quality patient care.Integrates
evidence-based practices into operations and clinical
protocols.Creates and fosters an environment that encourages
professional growth.Assess and ensure quality of services delivered
and facilitates staff development programs. Ensures staff
compliance with departmental and organizational policies,
procedures, and protocols.Enhance professional growth and
development through participation in educational programs, current
literature, in-service meetings, and show responsibility for own
professional practice and ongoing education.Non-Essential Functions
-Perform other duties as assigned.Attends and participates in staff
meetings, in-service, and committees as assigned.Adheres to and
supports policies and procedures of STRHS Pulaski.Maintains a neat
and professional appearance in compliance to the existing dress
code.May be required to perform the duties of the CNA, MA or LPN or
other nursing staff on occasion.Organizational Expectations
-Compliance to the STRHS Pulaski Standards of
Performance.Compliance to dress code standards.Actively
participates in Foundation Safety Behavior Tools and Tactics such
as Briefs, Debriefs, Huddles, Learning Boards, Executive Patient
Safety Rounds, and reporting of unanticipated and unintended
patient events regardless of whether there is harm.Maintains
regulatory compliance in departmental operations, including, but
not limited to, the Joint Commission, CMS, federal financial
regulations, and Tennessee state regulations.Maintains competency
in skills related to the operation of department and in leadership
and management competencies.Leadership Capabilities -The RN House
Supervisor provides oversight/supervision to RN Charge Nurses,
Registered Nurses, Licensed Practical Nurses, Nurse Externs,
Student Nurses, and Certified Nurse TechsDisplays proven leadership
attributes with co-workers and colleagues, customers, physicians,
and employees.Job Requirements -Minimum Education
Bachelor of Science in NursingRequired Skills
Must possess strong computer skills and have the ability to work
with multiple computer systems
Must be able to read and communicate effectively in English
Must be able to operate standard patient care equipment for
services provided
Must possess the ability to work well under pressure, to adapt
quickly in changing situations, to function dependently and
independently and to be flexible in applying basic nursing
knowledge to a variety of settings.
Certifications:
Basic Life Support (BLS)
Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS)
Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)
Neonatal Resuscitation Provider (NRP) within 1 year of date of
hire/transfer.
Licenses: Must possess an active RN license in the state of TN or
hold a Compact State RN license with the intent to obtain a TN RN
license within 30 days of hire.Minimum Work Experience
Minimum of 3 years clinical experience
Previous house supervision experience preferred
Must complete ER Triage Training within 6 months of hire.Equal
